Jesus Was A Gook

This is the second song I’ve written so far for “Heads On Sticks”. (Note: And I just finished “Onslaught” last week, so that will be released first).

The 6th Full-length album “Melt”

Produced by Michael Nhat

This is my last Vintage Rap album. I just released three in a row including Swimming to Cambodia. These beats were made in Clinton, Iowa 2006-2007 while visiting my adopted family. They are my top shelf selections. I have been wasting time sitting on them for years waiting to release them because I’m told it’s all about timing. Well, I realized I have a lot of beats. I need to stop wasting my time recording to beats that I think are okay, but someone else out there will love the beats and I should just record what I love. “Melt” to me is the best of the Vintage Rap albums, I have given it some of my most personal lyrics. Unfortunately, no label picked it up and I can not give it the financial push it deserves; but I don’t want to wait around because I have too many recordings waiting to go public and I’m not getting younger. So, I self-released it. I promise with every order I will send more than what you order, so if you have time, give it a listen below on my Bandcamp.

“A Lot Of People Ask If That’s Her Real Name” LIVE

I made this with a roommates Korg Triton in 2004. He had it under his bed and I don’t think he ever used it when we lived together. In a week I think I churned out 5 cdr’s of music ready for vox. In 2008, my friends at Vermont House were starting to inquire about my music. We’d been friends for awhile and I never told them I was a musician before. So after they found out, I started listening to my old cdr’s and decided to finally write and record vocals to this one and about 5 others. Another was “Here’s a Mop to Clean the Floor”.

This is me and Danny Louangxay from Brannigans Law practicing for our show at The Smell in downtown LA.

New Album “Living Room”

Living Room
by Michael Nhat

“Living Room” was originally titled “Insomnia For the Sport of It”, but I changed my mind because it didn’t go with the cover photo. I purchased the cover photo for 75 cents at a store called Mostly Books in downtown Philly.

From 2008-2011 I recorded a number of songs that would later make up the 20-track album “Living Room”. At the time when I began recording, I had not intended for the songs to be combined into one specific album. In my free time I would record songs out of boredom and fear that I might die some day and the beats and lyrics would be left undone.

Paramanu Recordings and I had been in negotiations to release an album with them since 2006. In 2010, they emailed me about a release date in March 2011, but it got delayed to 2012.

The album is almost entirely sample based. Some samples include Fiona Apple’s “Waltz” for the ending of track 3 “Whitewashed“, Andrea True’s “More More More” for track 6 “I’ll Die in Laos” and the “Popeye” soundtrack for track 9 “Cut Your Own Hair it’s Affordable“.

It features vocal collaborations with Magick Orchids, Dylan Doren, Bizzart, The Little Red Writer, Barrie Rose and k-the-i???. The late Brandi Hollandsworth was my roommate for a couple months and made some guest vocals as well on “Good Times”, “Cut Your Own Hair It’s Affordable” and “Lies and Confusion”.

I produced most of “Living Room” except tracks 1,6,7,8,9,and 20 by Jbts (of Luna is Honey)
and track 11 and 19 by Andrew Felix (of A Sending Service/I Had An Accident Records & Annie Hall Records)
