New T-Shirt: Hyenas Because Hyenas

I drew this in 2006 with an ink pen on white paper. I scanned it and planned to make it an album cover for something that didn’t exist yet.  I do that often. I make the album covers then record the sound based on what I personally would like to hear from it upon viewing it the first time at a store. Seven years later the sound I wanted for it is ready.

These are limited in quantities. Pre-Order your “Hyenas Because Hyenas” T-shirt today at https://michaelnhat.bandcamp.com/album/hyenas-because-hyenas

Otis Redding Was Playing The First Time I Did Crack

Otis Redding Was Playing When I First Smoked Crack
by Michael Nhat

In the beginning of the summer of 1996 I smoked crack. Otis Redding’s Greatest Hits just happened to be playing. I was in Clinton, Iowa at a friends house. I don’t remember how the desire to try crack came up, but I had easy access to some. I was storing crack in my parents ceiling for a friend who paid me 100 a month. That night, I must have drove home, and drove back then to sell crack to my friends back at his place and that’s when he put in Otis Redding. I’ve heard his music before, but couldn’t think where, then I nailed it, “Dream a Little Dream Of Me”. Some 80’s romantic comedy where they play “I’ve Got Dreams To Remember” which was playing right now. I was an instant fan. And not just because I was smoking crack. I was a music connoisseur of all genres. At this particular time I was in a 60’s/70’s soul/oldies phase. I hunted songs down. I don’t even remember how I did it without the internet back then, but I did. Anyways, this didn’t need hunting down. I went out and bought the double-disc of hits and the B-sides/Alternate takes disc right away. Continue reading “Otis Redding Was Playing The First Time I Did Crack”

The 6th Full-length album “Melt”

Produced by Michael Nhat

This is my last Vintage Rap album. I just released three in a row including Swimming to Cambodia. These beats were made in Clinton, Iowa 2006-2007 while visiting my adopted family. They are my top shelf selections. I have been wasting time sitting on them for years waiting to release them because I’m told it’s all about timing. Well, I realized I have a lot of beats. I need to stop wasting my time recording to beats that I think are okay, but someone else out there will love the beats and I should just record what I love. “Melt” to me is the best of the Vintage Rap albums, I have given it some of my most personal lyrics. Unfortunately, no label picked it up and I can not give it the financial push it deserves; but I don’t want to wait around because I have too many recordings waiting to go public and I’m not getting younger. So, I self-released it. I promise with every order I will send more than what you order, so if you have time, give it a listen below on my Bandcamp.

Kitchen EP

by Michael Nhat”The Kitchen EP”

I started recording an Experimental Electro/Synth-Pop album December 5, 2012 in my kitchen with instrumentals I recorded in 2003/2004 on a Korg Triton in Pasadena (Except “Head of Pegasus” produced by Sean Pineda of Voice on Tape). It’s something I have been planning to do for over a decade, record a  non-hip-hop album. In 2001 I made about 20 or 30 demos of singing on sampled beats while recording raps demos as well. At that time I was performing both genres when I realized my voice couldn’t handle yelling (because that’s how I rap) and then trying to sing. So I chose rapping. I thought I can be 20/30 something and rap. Then someday when I’m in my 30’s I’ll mature to singing because it just wouldn’t work the other way around. So to me this isn’t out of the blue. It’s the beginning of a new era for me that I am really excited about, so I wanted to make this EP Free and get it out there. I hope you like it. Thanks for reading/listening!
